Pirate’s Booty is the world’s first full-length CGI film for the gay adult market. CGI — the much easier way of saying computer-generated imagery — is the application of the field of computer graphics or, more specifically, 3D computer graphics to special effects in films, television programs, commercials, video games, simulators and simulation generally, and printed media. First utilized in 1973’s Westworld, CGI saw its first success in Star Wars five years later. Since then, the technology and creativity have continued to expand in leaps and bounds, proving that the limits were set only by our imaginations. On a planet where Americans spend more and more of their time in online worlds (65%, according to the Entertainment Software Association), this is familiar territory, and the pixilated graphics of years past have evolved into fluid creations that do as much as — if not more than – we can.

Enter Adult Source Media, the multi-award winning studio, and recognized leader in the production and distribution of adult animated content. Founded in 2004 by Wendy Crawford, some of ASM’s more famous series include Night Shift Nurses, and Night When Evil Falls. “Making our own titles was born from not being able to satisfy the desires of the American/European market with just what Japan produced,” says Crawford. “I have a very clear vision of where this genre is going and the future of the anime business in general. I hope to always stay on the forefront of technology.” Already known for their work with hentai and anime, CGI was a natural progression for ASM. Previous CGI titles include Pinks and Pleasure Island, both wildly successful for the straight audience. Their success convinced her to move forward with Pirate’s Booty. “I received so many requests from the gay community to make something just for them. I asked a lot of questions and heard loud and clear what people wanted. We bridged the gap between the gay market and animated market.”

And people wanted adventure on the high seas. “We have been discussing it for a long time, and how we have a special opportunity to make something more fantasy-driven than is available to most producers,” Crawford enthuses. “Anime is a place where we can create and make all of our fantasies come true. I’ve seen the same old stories for so many years. Jail cells, cops… I wanted to do something more, something exciting.” When the option arose to choose between traditional anime and GGI, there was no question. “CGI is what we do. It’s the best medium for making fantasies come true. There is just so much more you can do with CGI.”

They began with real people for the motion capture, because being as lifelike with the sex as possible was important to ASM. With over five full sex scenes, in a 60+ minute extravaganza, Pirate’s Booty certainly features the most realistic looking characters short of live actors. “When you create a character, you have to take into account every single detail, every touch, every pore on the skin. Think of a character as being like Casper the Ghost. If you tried to touch him your hand would pass rite through him, correct? How can two characters that are ‘ghost-like’ penetrate each other, and how can you make that surface react? Something as simple as grabbing an ass cheek or a soft kiss is a week’s worth of work.”

The time spent definitely pays off, as each character comes to life. As Crawford points out, “The great gift about CGI characters is we can make them flawless, and they don’t care if they’re a top or a bottom. They can switch roles at any time.” Watch the first mate, Jukes, take liberties with a native island boy. The muscular guard, who then ravages the first mate in the stocks, enjoys the view from behind as much as the audience does. Captain Jack, who lusts after the innocent cabin boy, and the ghostly spirit that beats him to the punch, all show the same passion as real actors on screen.

When asked if ASM based the character designs on particular stars or people, Crawford allows that bits and pieces were gathered as needed. “I wouldn’t say anyone in particular, but we did take what we felt were the best assets, of some of the best looking men today, and merge them into some incredible characters. I think in this movie you have something for everyone’s appetite. Though Captain Jack looks like Evan a bit, doesn’t he…” she laughs.

The legendary Evan Stone voices Captain Jack Swallows, the swashbuckling lead in this lustful voyage. A well-known name to straight audiences, there was no question in Crawford’s mind that he was perfect for the role. “Evan is an amazing actor. He brings a comedic side to everything that he does. I know what sort of actor he is, and this fits him so perfectly. We had such a great time making this movie.”

Stone concurs. “I received a call from my friend, ASM owner Wendy Crawford, and after seeing the amazing film they put together, I knew this was something I would have a lot of fun doing.”

Despite the orientation switch, Crawford doesn’t think there will be any issues with Stone translating to a new market. “A hot man is a hot man. Isn’t the unattainable straight man a welcome addition to any fantasy?” she laughs. “Actually, I think Evan has always had a gay following. He’s a down to earth kind of a true man, and I think people of all sexual orientations appreciate that. Hearing the one and only Evan Stone suck his own cock, ream a virgin twink’s ass, and take it from a burly guard — how much better can you get than that?”

If the buzz is any indication, ASM have a bona fide hit on their hands with Pirate’s Booty. “The action and realism of this film are truly remarkable,” Crawford says. “We are all really proud of this accomplishment and the end product will be a testament to all of our hard work.” Releasing on May 12^th simultaneously to VOD as well as DVD, ASM expects to dominate all channels of distribution and maximize exposure on this unique, groundbreaking title. But as much as the team would like to kick back on their own island paradise and celebrate, the job is far from over, as they are already hard at work on another gay fantasy. “The next title will have more elements added to it. Technology has evolved and we have updated our studio to make more things possible. More facials, more ass licking. Those are the goals for the next title.”
